CHEJ is working with the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League (BREDL) and other groups on a precautionary campaign to prevent pollution from proposed mega-dumps, nuclear reactors and the landspreading of sewage sludge in NC, and promote safe alternatives, such as zero waste programs with waste reduction, reuse and recycling, and safe energy.

Southeast Precautionary Action Conference - Over 120 people gathered in Greensboro, NC in November 2007 to develop plans for taking precautionary action on mega-dumps, landfills, nuclear power and sewage sludge. The conference proceedings feature a valuable Resource Guide, publications and power point presentations from national experts on nuclear power, sludge, zero waste, landfills, organizing, messaging, health studies and more. Community Visioning Meetings - CHEJ and BREDL are organizing Community Visioning Meetings in 2008 for people to brainstorm the type of environmentally-friendly jobs they would like in their community, instead of a polluting mega-dump. For more information, contact David Mickey, BREDL, at 608-255-4800 or davidmickey@bellsouth.net

Mega-Dumps Tour - CHEJ, BREDL and many community groups held a successful tour in August 2007 with 15 events in 9 cities to highlight the environmental and social injustice of proposed mega-dump landfills that would take out-of-state waste. View these news articles about the innovative tour.
